Gedala

Gedala is a Berber tribe that lived in the 8th - 11th centuries in the Sahara . Entered the Confederation of Sanjaji . In the middle of the 11th century, after many years of resistance, they were forced to enter a tribal union led by almoravids .

History

Gedal of origin Yahya ibn Ibrahim, as a result of marriage, became a tribe of Lemtuns and in the end became the leader of this tribe. In 1036, Yahya undertook a pilgrimage to Mecca . Having decided that in their homeland the situation was very bad, both in terms of knowing the true doctrine and in the fulfillment of religious duties, he called for a teacher - Islamic theologian Abdullah ibn Yasin from the city of Sigilmas . After the death of Yahya, Abdullah with several of his followers was forced to retire from the tribe.

By the years 1042-1043, Abdullah ibn Yasin had gathered enough adherents to begin the struggle with the Berber tribes of the Sahara ( Lemtuns , Gedal and others). The conquest of these tribes was actually completed by 1053 or 1055, after which Abdullah moved the connected Berbers to Maghrib , beginning the expansion of the Almoravids.
