Career
Demobilized from the army, Hazlwood began working as a DJ in Phoenix, Arizona, and also developed his own abilities in creating and producing songs. His first success was the song "Fool" (The Fool), recorded in 1956 by rockabilly singer Sanford Clark, which reached the first / second ten in several national charts. But the main success was the partnership with Dwayne Eddy , one of the pioneers of electric guitar, with whom instrumental hits such as " Peter Gunn ", "Boss Guitar", "Forty Miles of Bad Road", "Shazam!", " Rebel- 'Rouser "and" (Dance With The) Guitar Man. " The success of the first Eddie CDs is largely due to Lee, as a collaborator and producer. Hezlvud paid a lot of attention to the sound of music, was engaged in sound engineering. At a time when sound effects were not widely available, Hezlwood tried to achieve effects using echo in empty rooms. So, for example, to record Duane's Moovin '' N 'Groovin' Eddie Hazlewood bought a water tank, which they used as an echo chamber.
Subsequently, he created his own sound, which is sometimes described as Cowboy Psychedelia ( English Cowboy Psychedelia ) or Sweet Underground ( English Saccharine Underground ).
He became most famous, probably in the mid-60s, thanks to his collaboration with Nancy Sinatra (daughter of Frank Sinatra ). In 1966, he wrote and produced for her US / UK hit # 1, "These Boots Are Made for Walkin '" and "Summer Wine". He also wrote "How Does That Grab Ya, Darlin '", "Friday's Child", "So Long, Babe," Sugar Town "and many of her other songs. Their joint duet of 1967, Some Velvet Morning, is very famous. This song , as well as "Jackson", were shown on the television show Movin 'With Nancy . Earlier, in the same year, Lee was the producer of the main joint hit Frank and Nancy "Somethin' Stupid". In addition, Lee was a composer in films in which The Sinatra family - a spy "The Last of the Secret Agents", 1966, in which Nancy played, and a 1967 detective story featuring Frank, Tony Rome .
Lee Hezlwood can be called one of the charismatic reformers of modern music. Among the numerous musicians who recorded cover versions of Hezlwood songs are completely different, both independent and commercial performers - Scooter , Nick Cave , Einstürzende Neubauten , Robbie Williams , Jessica Simpson , Demis Roussos , KMFDM , Megadeth and many others.
In the 1970s, Hezlwood's creative career began to decline. In the late 1990s, he returned to the stage, re-united with Nancy Sinatra .
In 2005, Lee Hazlwood was diagnosed with cancer [1] . After that, he managed to record and release in 2006 his latest album, Cake or Death . The following year, Khezlvud died of hypernefroid kidney cancer .
