Scene Description

Tensions between the Hutu and Tutsi peoples lead to war in a country where corruption is a common thing. Paul Rusesabadzhina , who runs the hotel, is a Hutu, and his wife, Tatyana, belongs to the Tutsi. Their marriage is a source of disagreement with Hutu extremists, and above all, with a friendly supplier for the hotel, which at the same time is the leader of the local brutal militia against the Tutsi.

When the political situation in the country worsens, Paul and his family observe the killing of neighbors. Paul has good connections with influential people, whom he bribes with money and alcohol, while maintaining his own influence and family safety. When a civil war breaks out , an Rwandan army officer threatens Paul and his neighbors and Paul barely achieves security for them by taking everyone to the hotel. Many refugees from the crowded UN camp, Red Cross and shelters came there. Paul needs to distract the soldiers, take care of refugees and be a support for his family, as well as maintain the visibility of a high-class hotel, as the situation is becoming more and more severe with street crowds outside the hotel gates.
