Biography

Born on August 25, 1929 in the family of professor of Odessa State University V.D. Bogatsky. Father and mother are chemists. He received his secondary education at Odessa school No. 57 (1936-1946), with the exception of the period of World War II, when he was evacuated with his parents and the university staff. From 1946 to 1951, a student of the Faculty of Chemistry of OSU with a degree in organic chemistry.

At the university, A.V. Bogatsky teaches from 1951 to 1983.

From 1951 to 1954 A.V. Bogatsky is a graduate student of the Department of Organic Chemistry, OSU.

In 1954 he defended his thesis on the topic "Synthesis and properties of stereoisomeric crotonic acids and their esters" to obtain the degree of candidate of chemical sciences.

In 1954-1957 he worked as an assistant at OSU .

In 1955, the Higher Attestation Commission of the USSR awarded him the degree of candidate of chemical sciences.

In 1957-1958 - senior lecturer, associate professor (1958-1969).

In 1962 - the academic title of assistant professor.

In 1962-1970 - Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry.

In 1967 - a dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Chemical Sciences on the topic "Synthesis of some alkoxy compounds based on alkoxyalkyl substituted malonic and acetoacetic esters, acetylacetones and 1,3-diols and the study of their stereochemistry, properties and transformations."

1968 - Doctor of Chemistry and the title of professor.

1968-1970 - Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs.

1970-1975 - rector of the OSU .

Over the years of his leadership, the level of university science and the educational work of faculties and departments has constantly increased, relations with production have been established, and the material and technical support of the university has improved. Since 1971, at the initiative of A. V. Bogatsky, the first specialized publication “Issues of Stereochemistry” was published in the USSR

In 1975-1977, Bogatsky headed the laboratories of the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.

In 1976 he was elected a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.

In 1977 - Director of the Physicochemical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.

He was awarded three orders of the Red Banner of Labor (1971, 1976, 1981), a medal to them. S. I. Vavilova; Prize winner L. V. Pisarzhevsky Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR (1980), laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine (1991, posthumous); Honored Worker of Science of the Ukrainian SSR (1979).

Died A.V. Bogatsky in Odessa on December 19, 1983.

In 1984, his name was assigned to the Physicochemical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR .

Scientific activity

The scientific activity of A. V. Bogatsky was devoted to dynamic stereochemistry, conformational analysis of heterocycles, the chemistry of physiologically active substances, and the chemistry of macrocycles. In 1960-1968 the scientist studied the configurations and conformations of heterocyclic systems such as oxetanes, 2,3-dioxane, 1,3-dithian, 1, 3, 2-dioxaphosphorinans. He discovered the catalytic condensation reaction of 1,3-glycols with carbonyl compounds and mineral acid esters, which leads to a large set of diverse heterocycles. He developed synthesis methods and studied the structure and complexing properties of macrocyclic polyesters (crown ethers) and polycyclic aminopolyethers (cryptands). Together with employees, he received (1974) and introduced (since 1978) the first original domestic tranquilizer, phenazepam, into production. [one]
