Content

Geographical position

The village is located 200 km south-east of Kyzylorda , 103 km north-west of Turkestan , on the right-bank plain of the Syr Darya (3 km from the main channel).

Railway station on the Kyzylorda- Arys line . Motorway Samara - Tashkent [3] .

Mud and medical resort functioning year-round since 1918, the sanatorium Zhanakorgan . The main therapeutic agents are sulphide silt mud, sulfate-chloride magnesium-sodium brine of Lake Teresken , which contributes well to the treatment of diseases of the nervous system, musculoskeletal system, gynecological, etc. [3] .

Population

In 1999, the population of the village was 20708 people (10460 men and 10248 women) [4] . According to the 2009 census , 22,716 people lived in the village (11,344 men and 11,372 women) [4] .

History

The Yana-Kurgan fortress was built by Kokandans in the 40s of the 19th century.

In 1841, the fortress was besieged by rebellious Kazakhs under the leadership of Kenesary Kasimov [5]

September 23, 1861 was taken by a Russian detachment under the command of General Debu . [6]

From 1934 to 1947, Metropolitan Cyril , Holy Martyr of Shymkent, was serving a link in Yana-Kurgan [7] . In 1936, Zhakhan Ualisherovich Akhanov , a Soviet and Kazakh soil scientist, was born in the village [8] .

On September 8, 1992, the transcription of the name of the Yanykurgan region in Russian was changed to Zhanakorgan region, and the city of Yanykurgan to Zhanakorgan. [9]
