Ailurophobia ( English ailurophobia ; other Greek αἴλουρος - cat + phobia ), a synonym - galeophobia, hatophobia, from γαλέη or γαλῆ - a small predator (" ferret " or " weasel ") - an obsessive fear of cats [1] .
Reasons
Like all fears and phobias , aylurophobia can manifest itself unconsciously, as a protective mechanism . This phobia can be obtained in real life due to fear of something related to cats and emotional injuries . Ailurophobia can also be caused by the sight of those injured. As long as the negative impact on the subconscious is strong enough, negative emotions automatically act as a reminder of the " danger " at the sight of a cat.
Phobia manifests itself in different ways. Some victims are afraid of cats almost all the time, while others only in response to a direct threat from the cat. Some of the possible situations that can cause fear are: cat purrs ; view of a real live cat; many believe that the cat may attack when she is outside; the thought of meeting a cat in a dark room, a cat in pictures and on television; toy cats; as well as fear of the fur of this animal.
Treatment
There are many ways to treat aylurophobia. Consultations can be obtained from a psychiatrist or other psychotherapy specialist.
