The source - Lake Haapayarvi in the Kalevala region. It follows from it under the name of Maya . The height of the source is 178.6 m above sea level.
It flows through the lakes Yaliyarvi (below it is called Yalnosh ), Yali, Shombozero (below it is called Shomba), Kukua, Yurika, Kurgiyevo, Lullo. Below, Schombozer crosses the border of the Kem district and flows further along its territory. It falls into Kem, 3 km east of the village of Shomba .
According to the GWR, the length of the river is 85 km, the area of its basin is 1090 km².
