The cape was named after the Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi , before that it was called Cape Pygmalion. Indira is located in the north-eastern part of the Indian Ocean , northwest of Sumatra .
A lighthouse with a tower 35 m high was built on the cape, [2] however the 2004 tsunami caused some damage to the structure, and the shore plunged into the ocean. After these events, the lighthouse is half in the water. [3] However, some researchers argue that the coastline should recover over time. [four]
