“Gateway of India” ( Hindi इंडिया गेट , Eng. India Gate ) - a monument located in New Delhi in memory of Indian soldiers who died in the Anglo-Afghan wars and during the First World War . It was erected by the project of Edwin Lachens and inaugurated in 1931 . At the foot of the arch eternal flame burns. On the arch itself, more than 90,000 names of soldiers are carved.

At the end of the Third Indo-Pakistani War (1971), Indira Gandhi opened the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier near the gate. The laying of wreaths at this monument is included in the program of state visits of foreign heads of state to India.
