Jantar Mantar is an observatory built in 1727-1734. Rajput Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in the city of Jaipur founded by him shortly before this. This is the largest and safest of the five observatories built by him in India. Instruments for measurements differed in colossal dimensions. So, the sundial of Jantar-Mantara is considered the largest in the world (27 meters across).

In 1948, the Jantar-Mantar Observatory was declared a national monument, and in 2010 - a UNESCO World Heritage Site (as “the embodiment of astronomical skills and cosmological representations of the court of the learned monarch at the end of the Mughal period ”).
