Kota ( Hindi ) is a city in the south-east of the Indian state of Rajasthan . The administrative center of the same district . The third largest city in the city of Rajastahan (after Jaipur and Jodhpur ) and the 47th city of India with a population of 1,001,365 inhabitants (2011 census) [1] . Kota is located 240 km south of the state capital - Jaipur on the banks of the Chambal River .

Physical-geographical characteristic
Kota is located in the southern part of Rajasthan. The average height above sea level is 271 meters. Kota is located in the center of the southeastern region of Rajastahan, known as Hadoti . The city is located on the eastern bank of the Chambal River on a high inclined plain, which is part of the Malva Plateau . From the south-east to north-west, the city is crossed by the hills of Mocandarra.
- Climate
Koti's climate is tropical semi-desert (according to the Köppen climate classification BSh ) with high temperatures throughout the year. Summer is long, hot and dry, begins at the end of March and lasts until the end of June. The monsoon season is characterized by lower temperatures with significantly higher humidity of prolonged torrential rains. At the end of the monsoon season, in October, the temperature begins to rise again. A short mild winter begins at the end of November and lasts until the end of February. The average winter temperature is 26.7 ° C (average maximum) - 12 ° C (average minimum).
The average annual rainfall is 761 mm [2] . Most of the precipitation comes from the southwest monsoon .

History
Kota is located in the historic area of Hadoti. The city was walled in the XIV century , and in 1625 became the center of the Rajput principality. After the collapse of the Mughal Empire, the local Rajas were able to defend independence in bloody wars with the rulers of Jaipur .
In 1818, the British persuaded the Raja to conclude with them a subsidiary agreement on military and political assistance. After that, the principality of Kota lost its political independence and came under the administration of the Rajputana agency.

According to the 2011 India Census, the population of Kota was 1,001,365 people, of which 529,795 men and 471,570 women [4] [5] . The sex ratio of 906 women to 1000 men and 12.74% of the city’s population is children under 6 years of age. The literacy rate is 83.65% (among men, 90.56%, among women, 75.90%)
Economy and Transport
Kota is an important center of commerce in the region. The industry includes the textile industry, the production of metal products and dairy products, polishing of stone, etc. The national highway No. 12 (Jaipur- Jabalpur ) and No. 76 pass through Kota district. The nearest operating airport is in Jaipur. Kota has its own airport, but it does not accept regular flights since 1997 [6] .
