Biography
Born into a Litvak family, Levin grew up on the southern tip of Boston, where he observed street life consisting of European immigrants and widespread poverty and social problems that became the topics of his work. [7] At first he was engaged in drawing with Harold K. Zimmerman in 1924-31. From 1929 to 1933 at Harvard University, Levin and classmate Hyman Bloom studied and Dinman Ross. In 1932, with the assistance of Ross, Levin's paintings were exhibited at the Fogg Museum of Art at Harvard, and three years later, Ross was bequeathed to the Museum of 20 Levin's paintings. [eight]
A documentary was shot about the artist’s life: “Jack Levine: Feast of Pure Reason” (Jack Levine: Feast of Pure Reason, 1989).
