Gotan project

The group was formed in 1999 . The first recording of the Vuelvo Al Sur / El Capitalismo Foraneo group was released in 2000, followed by the album La Revancha del Tango (2001). The band's music is tango, complemented by electronic elements (samples, beats and breaks).

Gotan Project named themselves in honor of the popular compilation album Tango Project , released in the United States in 1982. Gotan is a word derived from Tango as a result of the word game characteristic of the sociect of lunfardo , common in Buenos Aires and Montevideo, the principle of which is the transposition of syllables in in words.

The band's live recordings were broadcast on the Gilles Peterson's world music show (BBC Radio 1) in May 2004. In 2004, Philippe Coen Solal released a DJ set Inspiración Espiración - A Gotan Project DJ Set Selected & Mixed By Philippe Cohen Solal . This album is a collection of classic tango by composers Anibal Troilo and Astor Piazzolla , as well as compositions written by the Gotan Project themselves. In addition, the album includes a bonus track La Cruz del Sur (a composition not included in La Revancha del Tango ).

Prior to the Gotan Project, Muller and Coen Solal performed in a duet of Boyz from Brazil.
