Mikela Figini ( Italian: Michela Figini , born April 7, 1966 in Prato Leventina , canton of Ticino , Switzerland ) is a Swiss skier , Olympic champion, world champion and two-time winner of the World Cup . The youngest ever Olympic champion in alpine skiing [1] (at the time of victory in downhill skiing at the Games in Sarajevo Mikel was 17 years and 315 days) and the youngest winner of the World Cup (less than 19 years old at the time of victory in the 1984/85 season) . In 1988, in Calgary, at the age of 21, she was honored to fly the flag of Switzerland at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

She made her debut in the World Cup on January 21, 1983 (10th place in combination in the Austrian Schruns), and on March 5, 1983, she first climbed the podium at the age of 16 (third place in downhill). She won the first victory on January 28, 1984 in the downhill in the French Megeve. Over 8 seasons, she won 26 victories at the World Cup stages, having spent only 117 races (more than 22% of victories). Twice in a row (1984 and 1985) was recognized as the best athlete of the year in Switzerland.

Last time she played in the World Cup on February 11, 1990 in the French Meribel (11th place in the super giant). She ended her career in the spring of 1990 at the age of 24 due to a conflict with coach Ian Tishhauser , whom Mikela accused of incorrect training methods and the deterioration of the atmosphere in the national team [2] .
