It was located in the village of Khrenovo, Kostroma province. It was founded and maintained at the expense of the Vichug manufacturer I.A. Kokorev.

After the revolution, the educational institution became secular (pedagogical school, then Vichugsky pedagogical school) and continued to train teachers.

A Brief History of the School

Khrenovo is an ancient village located 3 km north-west of the modern city of Vichugi on the road to the village. Old Vichuga . In the village there has long been a temple of the Intercession. In 1828, a new, stone church was built. At this church in 1884 a parish school was opened, which was originally placed in a church gatehouse.

Since 1897, the guardian of this school was the Tezin manufacturer Ivan Kokorev. With his money, a separate building was adapted for the school building, which stood near the gatehouse, which could accommodate more than 60 students. But, despite this, the number of people who wanted to study was so great that it was decided to build a new stone building to accommodate a parish school of an already advanced type — a second-class school designed to train literacy teachers. May 22 (June 4), 1900, the solemn laying of a new stone building took place.

But in view of the fact that in the entire Kostroma diocese there has not yet been a single educational institution that specially prepared teachers for parish schools, the beautiful building intended for a second-class parish school was opened in 1902 in a different capacity - as the only one in the diocese of the church-teacher seminary.

“The three-year curriculum at this school was much more advanced, students and teachers are stronger, the library and teaching equipment are better than in the primary and second-grade schools that I attended earlier. I was quite happy for two years of classes at the church-teacher school. With few exceptions, lectures and textbooks were interesting and informative ... ” (Pitirim Sorokin)

The school was also supposed to teach agriculture, beekeeping, horticulture, gardening, crafts carpentry, shoemaking, etc., for which there was appropriate equipment. And the building itself was designed and built in accordance with the latest requirements of construction equipment and school hygiene. It was entirely brick, on the upper floor there were classes, recreation (a lounge) and libraries (apparently, they meant student and fundamental). On the middle floor, bedrooms for students and an apartment for a singing teacher were provided, in the lower, basement - a kitchen, a student's dining room and a wardrobe. A separate two-story stone building was built for the head and three teachers. Later, the so-called “exemplary” school was opened at the school, where students underwent pedagogical practice.

In the first year, 56 people were examined, 47 were accepted, most of them were children of peasants from the Kostroma and Vladimir provinces who graduated from second-class parish schools. And on May 13 (26), 1905, the first issue was made. 28 pupils completed the course.

After the revolution, Khrenovskaya teacher seminary continued to train teachers. In 1920, it was transformed into a three-year pedagogical course, and then (since 1921) into a pedagogical college, later renamed the Vichug Pedagogical School. During the war, the school housed a hospital.

All the years of its existence, the popularity of the educational institution was very high, competitions reached up to 10 people per place.

In 1956, the pedagogical school was transformed into a boarding school, which since 1981 became a special (correctional) school in which children with speech pathology live and study. Currently, many children are orphans, and the boarding school needs help.

Benefactor Ivan Kokorev

Ivan Alexandrovich Kokorev was the largest Vichug manufacturer . He successfully developed the factory business inherited from his father-in-law Gerasim Razorenov (d. In 1893), significantly expanded it, turning the Tezin factory into the largest plant in the region.

But Kokorev left a good memory of himself not only as a successful Vichug industrialist, not only as the creator of the majestic Resurrection Church in Tezino (built in 1911 by the outstanding Russian architect Ivan Kuznetsov ), but also as a builder and trustee of the Khrenovsky Church and Teacher Seminary.

As Ivan Kokorev said at the opening of a new educational institution, "he built the school in order to raise the church with its help . " But as life has shown, the Kokorev school became a hotbed not so much of faith as of knowledge and advanced ideas for its time.

In the Khrenovsk seminary, in addition to the current content, I. A. Kokorev took upon himself the construction of a library at the school, which, if desired, could also be used by adults from the village of Khrenova and the surrounding villages. Continuing the traditions of church charity, the trustee annually arranged a Christmas tree with gifts for children for Christmas, and for Easter he gave fabric cuts for clothes: for boys - for a couple, for girls - for a dress. Teachers were paid a salary increase from the funds of the guardian. Kokorev was also a benefactor of the Intercession Church in Hrenovo, in which he kept a very good choir.

In 1905, the following words were spoken to the philanthropist on behalf of the first graduates of the school:

“... if we were educated, if we rose from among the dark peasantry to the degree of teachers and enlighteners of the people, then we owe this entirely to Ivan Alexandrovich, as a person who created a school worthy of us ... Many of us studied at the expense of Ivan Alexandrovich. We owe it to him to improve our table on big annual holidays. He took care to provide us with healthy and wholesome entertainment, such as the construction of a skating rink. “Finally, he overhauled our school library and thus gave us a powerful tool to replenish and expand our education and development.”
