History
In 1903, Fuxin County was established in these places. The hieroglyphs for the name (阜新 - "mound" and "new") were taken from the phrase "物阜民丰 , 焕然一新".
After the Xinhai Revolution, these lands became part of the Jaehe Special Administrative Region, subsequently transformed into Jaehe Province. In 1933, Jaehe was captured by Manzhou-go . In 1940, the urbanized part of Fuxin County was allocated to Fuxin City, and the remaining part of the county was transformed into Hoshun Tumed-Zoci (土默特 土默特旗). After the surrender of Japan in 1945, the Kuomintang authorities recreated the county and liquidated the city, which, becoming the village of Haizhou, again became part of Fuxin County. Fuxin and Zhangyu counties themselves were included in the new Liaobei province.
After the lands were taken over by the Communists during the Civil War , the city of Fuxin was re-created. In 1949, these lands became part of the province of Liaosi. In 1954, the provinces of Liaosi and Liaodong were merged into the province of Liaodong. In 1956, Fuxin and Zhangyu counties became part of the Jinzhou Special Region (锦州 专区), and Fuxin became a provincial subordinate city. In 1958, Fuxin County was transformed into Fuxin-Mongol Autonomous County. In 1959, Zhangyu County and Fuxin-Mongol Autonomous County were transferred to Fuxin jurisdiction.
