Biography
Alberto's father is a native of Jamaica , this is due to his English surname , his mother is Ecuador.
Spencer began his career in 1953 at the Everest Club from Guayaquil . After 2 years, he already made his way to the main team. In 1959, he received an invitation to the Ecuador national team, in which he played until the end of his career, with a break in 1962-1964, when he played for the national team of Uruguay. Spencer became the author of the first goal of both the Ecuadorian and Uruguayan footballers scored at Wembley Stadium in a friendly match between Uruguay and England . However, the rules governing nationality in football were tightened and Spencer was forced to rejoin Ecuador. Since the level of football in this country in the 1960s (unlike the current situation, when the Ecuador national team reached the 1/8 finals of the 2006 World Cup , which Spencer himself still found, and the LDU Quito won the Libertadores Cup in 2008 ) was one of lowest in South America, the Ecuadorian nugget has never played in world championships.
In total, Spencer scored 451 goals during his career (excluding friendly matches, with which the number of goals exceeds 500).
In 1975-1976, Spencer coached the Ecuadorian Emelek . [four]
In 1982, Alberto Spencer was appointed Consul of Ecuador in Uruguay, where he remained to live.
Enormous indignation was caused by the absence of Spencer in the FIFA-100 list published by Pele and FIFA . South American journalists recalled the 1963 match in which the Peñarol defeated Santos with a score of 5: 0 and Spencer sent 3 goals to the Brazilians.
Alberto Spencer died on November 3, 2006 in Cleveland, during a planned trip to the USA for examination in a cardio clinic - from a heart attack . Buried in Montevideo.
The Modelo Stadium in Guayaquil was given the name Alberto Spencer.
