Biography
The son of A.V. Kordyum , actor, film director, screenwriter. Graduated from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv . In 1955 he entered the graduate school of the Faculty of Biology, later became an employee of the D.K. Zabolotny Institute of Microbiology and Virology. While working at the institute, he consistently developed the latest trends, such as aerial microbiology, microbiological problems of closed ecosystems, space biology, and the study of the biological effect of exogenous nucleic acids, which served as the foundation for genetic engineering . The result of these studies was the realization of the need to change the concept of closed green systems to ensure the existence of man in outer space. The experiments confirmed that it is more expedient to create not closed systems, but partially closed ones. Kordum studied the effects of exogenous RNA on the genetic system of prokaryotes and their evolution . The results of these studies were summarized in the monograph “Biosphere and Evolution”, in which an information concept of the evolutionary process was proposed, similar to the Virological theory of evolution . The underlying idea of this concept is that horizontal gene transfer is a leading factor in evolution.
Wife - E. L. Kordyum (born 1932), biologist , doctor of biological sciences , professor, corresponding member of NASU . Honored Worker of Science of the Ukrainian SSR . Laureate of the State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR in the field of science and technology (1979).
