It was founded in September 2003 . It is the second Wikipedia in the Dravidian language, which was able to cross the threshold of 10,000 articles (the first was Teluga Wikipedia ). As of November 12, 2008, it included 15,911 articles, being the 67th in their number. On October 6, 2010, the 25,000th article was written, and on December 18, 2012, the Tamil Wikipedia crossed the line of 60,000 articles, being the 60th by the number of articles among all language sections.
Tamil Wikipedia is seen as an important source of information in the Tamil language on the Internet [2] . The development of the section slows down the lack of computers and Internet services in rural areas of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka ; The development of the section is mainly due to the Tamil diaspora [2] [3] .
