Biography

In 1981 he graduated from high school. In 1982-1984, he served in the Armed Forces of the USSR.

In 1984 he entered the Moscow Theological Seminary, which he graduated in first class in 1988. In the same year he was admitted to the Moscow Theological Academy (MDA); how a student twice received a patriarchal scholarship.

On October 19, 1990, at the 3rd year of the academy, he was tonsured a monk with the name Mark in honor of the evangelist Evangelist Mark at the Pokrovsky academic church. On November 21 of the same year he was ordained a hierodeacon ; January 7, 1991 - in the rank of hieromonk .

In 1992, he graduated from the Moscow Academy of Arts, defending a Ph.D. thesis at the Department of the History of the Ancient Church on the theme "The Blessed Diadochus of Photico and his theological and ascetic views."

On August 12, 1992, by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, he was appointed a member of the Russian Spiritual Mission in Jerusalem [2] .

On the occasion of Pentecost 1997, Patriarch of Moscow Alexy II in the Trinity Cathedral of the Russian Spiritual Mission in Jerusalem was elevated to the rank of hegumen .

On December 28, 1999, by the definition of the Holy Synod, he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate [3] . He oversaw the administrative work of the department and carried out practical interaction with state institutions of Russia and other countries.

On January 26, 2000, by decree of Patriarch Alexy II, he was appointed rector of the Moscow Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Khoroshev .

On November 3, 2015, by order of Patriarch Kirill, he was relieved of the control of the Northern and North-Western Vicarities of the city of Moscow [20] .
