The genus is named after Gottlieb Gledich ( German: , 1714 - 1786 ), a German physician and botanist , director of the Berlin Botanical Garden .
Gledichii - deciduous spreading trees up to 25 meters high. Usually plants have spines . The leaves are double-pinnate, consisting of 20-30 leaves . The flowers are small, greenish. Fruits are beans .
