History

One of the most famous Canadian punk projects, the experimental hardcore trio No Means No arose in the basement laboratory of the city of Victoria. The core of the group, the Wright brothers Rob (bass, vocals, guitar) and John (drums, vocals, keyboards), created their own mini-label Can.Wrong, where the first mini-album "Betrayal, Fear, Anger, Hatred" was released in 1981. After two records, the group made it to the most avant-garde punk bureau Alternative Tentacles, which began its collaboration with No Means No from the mini-album "You Kill Me". As part of the group, it was already possible to hear the guitarist Andy Kerr. The style of the group can be described as “progressive hardcore” - complex rhythm, broken melodies, constant excursions into third-party musical spheres, eternally accompanied the music of the group, attracting a special contingent to it, unsatisfied with the simplicity of most punk groups. At the same time, the group never changed the sense of humor, and the complexity of the music for it does not always mean seriousness. This was especially evident in the side project of the Wright brothers - the group The Hanson Brothers .
