The club was founded in 1935 as the Toshiba football section and was originally based in Kawasaki . In 1981, he shared the victory in the Japan Soccer League Cup with the Urava Red Diamonds .
In 1996, the club was sold to a consortium of companies from the city of Sapporo and in 1998, under the name "Consadole Sapporo" entered the professional football J-League .
The club performs with varying success in the J-League, either rising to the First Division or flying to the Second. After winning the Second Division in the 2007 season, thanks to the efforts of the future Brazilian Hulk player, in 2008 the club took last place in the First Division and flew back to the Second.
