US Cabinet

The cabinet of the President of the United States includes senior officials of the executive branch of the federal government of the United States of America , appointed by the President of the United States with the consent of the Senate .

The institute is associated with the name of the first US President George Washington , who at the end of the 18th century formed an office of four persons close to him: US Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson , Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton , Secretary of War Henry Knox and Attorney General Edmund Randolph , so that they along with Vice President John Adams , assisted in the discharge of his duties.

With the exception of the US Attorney General and former US General Postmaster , all cabinet members — heads of central government — are called “Secretaries,” which corresponds to the ministerial position in the US government. In Russian-language literature, the term “minister” is used; the exception is the position of Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, which is translated literally as " US Secretary of State ." Nominees for the cabinet are proposed by the President of the United States and submitted to the US Senate for approval by a simple majority. If the appointment to the post is approved by the Senate, then they take an oath , after which they begin to fulfill their duties. A number of important officials of the executive branch of the US federal government, such as the Director of National Intelligence , the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency , must also be approved by the Senate, [1] [2] but are not considered members of the Cabinet or officials in the rank of members of the Cabinet.

Currently, the cabinet includes 15 ministers, who are led by the following ministries: Agriculture (Department of Agriculture, USDA), Trade (Department of Commerce, DOC), Defense (Department of Defense, DOD), Education (Department of Education, ED) Department of Energy and Human Services (HHS), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) , Justice (Department of Justice, DOJ), labor (Department of labor, DOL), the Department of State (Department of State, DOS), Interior (Department of the Interior, DOI) , the Federal ie the Treasury (Department of the Treasury), transport (Department of Transportation, DOT) Veterans Affairs (Department of Veterans Affairs, VA) .
