Description

The length of the shiver ranges from several tens of meters to several kilometers. Due to the high flow velocity, oblique and direct standing waves , reverse flows, water pits ( barrels ) behind the stones appear in the shivers. Unlike thresholds, shivers do not have powerful sinks . Plums are local, their sequence is poorly traced, so it is difficult to distinguish the line of preferential water flow (stream). The main difficulty in passing a shiver, like any obstacle on the river, is to determine the line of motion of the vessel. Security measures - reconnaissance, choice of berths, water and shore insurance. Often a shiver is called some part of a large threshold. For example, like this: "The threshold begins with a long uncomplicated shiver ..."

It is generally believed that shivers are formed in rivers with a fast flow. So, on the Indigirka River in Yakutia, shivers, consisting mainly of boulders, sometimes stretch for hundreds of meters, which can be seen for many kilometers [1] .
