Career
He made his debut in the major league of the USSR Basketball Championship at the age of 17 (1984/85 season), when he replaced the injured Valters in the VEF starting five.

During the pre-Olympic tournament in Spain, he signed a contract with the NBA club Minnesota Timberwolves . Immediately after the Olympics, 92 went to a new club. But a career in the NBA did not work out, according to the player, due to the unstable position of the head coaches in the team (there were two of them under the Wind) [2] . In total, he played only 13 games in the NBA, although he spent almost 1.5 years at Timberwolves. In December 1993, he signed a contract with the club of the Continental Basketball Association (KBA) Rochester Renegade.
In 1992, despite pressure from the Latvian Basketball Federation, Vetra and another famous Latvian basketball player, Igor Miglinieks, decided to play at the Olympic Games in Barcelona as part of the United Team , since its players had agreed to perform at the Olympics before the collapse of the USSR [3] . The combined team took fourth place in the tournament.
In 1994-1995 he played in Latvia for VEF-Adazi (Riga) and Broceni BC (Riga). In 1995, at the invitation of Stanislav Eremin, he moved to BC CSKA.
Four-time (1996, 1998-2000) champion of Russia as part of CSKA .
Champion of the North European Basketball League (NEBL) 2000 as part of CSKA.
He had a nickname in CSKA - "Gunch". Loves nature, travels. At one time he was fond of playing golf, but later interest disappeared. In an interview, Vetra said that he was attracted to golf by the fact that at first it was "something new" [4] . He prefers to spend his free time with his family. Favorite food is fruit.
