Anthem of Syria

“Khumat ad-Diyar” (“Guardians of the Homeland”; Arabic: حُمَاةَ الدِّيَار) is the national anthem of Syria . The author of the words is Khalil Mardam Bey ( 1895 - 1959 ), the composer Muhammad Flayfil ( 1899 - 1985 ). The anthem was approved in 1936, however, during the existence of the union state between Syria and Egypt ( UAR ), it was temporarily not used. It was decided to compose the national anthem of the UAR from the anthems of the two countries. After the collapse of the federation in 1961, the national anthem of Syria was completely restored.

Arabic Literal Translation

Guardians of the Homeland, peace be upon you!
(Our) proud souls refuse to submit.
Nativity scene, sacred house
And the throne of the sun, which is not destined to be subjugated.
The mountains of the Levant, like tall towers
who are in dialogue with the zenith of the sky.
Earth is beautiful with shining suns
becoming another sky or almost him.
A thrill of hope and a heartbeat -
The flag that united the whole country
Is he the pupil of every eye (black stripe on the flag),
And isn't he the ink of the blood of every martyr (red stripe on the flag)?
(Our) spirit is powerful and (our) history is glorious,
and the souls of our ancestors are formidable guards.
From us Al-Walid and from us ar-Rashid,
so why don't we prosper and why not build?
