Heel (checkerboard combination)

Hielslag2.jpg

Heel ( niderl. Hielslag ) - a standard combination in checkers , as well as the back stroke itself, sometimes called the heel strike . It is named so because of a sudden bounce of the checker back before the final capture. The name came from international drafts .

For example, in the diagram above, white moves 34-29, and black beat 24x33. In response, White beat back 28x39 - this is a heel strike. Black is forced to beat 17x28, after which White beat 3 checkers in one move, draw a queen and easily win the game.
