History
The Congregational tradition traces its lineage to the parishes of the Puritans and Pilgrims , the first Protestant settlers in the northeast of the present United States. There is also a certain influence of Lutheranism . In 1931, the National Council of the Congregational Churches of the United States and the General Convention of the Christian Church ( restorationists ) merged into the Congregational Christian Churches . In 1934, the Evangelical Synod of North America (mainly German Lutherans) and the Reformed Church in the United States (mainly German and Dutch Calvinists, a minority disagreeing with the unification continued to exist under the name Reformed Church in the United States ) joined together in the Evangelical and Reformed Church . In 1945 and 1955, from the parts of the Congregational Christian Church, the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches and the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference, respectively, were created. In 1957, the Congregational Christian Churches and the Evangelical and Reformed Church merged in the Central Church Hall.
