Merk ( Eng. Merk ) - a Scottish silver coin , which was in circulation in the XVI - XVII centuries. Initially, the measure contained 13 shillings 4 pence, that is, 2/3 of the Scottish pound or approximately one British shilling , later its value fell to 14 Scottish shillings. In circulation were coins in one measure, 1/2 measure, and also 1/4 measure. The first issues of coins in one measure weighed 103.8 grains and were minted from silver of 500 tests (see bill )
