The Court of Chancery is the highest judicial body, which was created in the early era of feudalism in England as an addition to the system of courts guided in the administration of justice by decrees and other sources of law. The second name is the Court of Justice .
According to the creators of the court, he was to be guided only by justice (the right to justice ). The chairman of the court was the Lord Chancellor . In practice, the introduction of the Chancellor Court created great difficulty in interpreting the laws, and justice in the Chancellor court was accompanied by great bureaucracy and red tape, in addition, the proceedings were often accompanied by legal tricks of dishonest lawyers .
Attempts to introduce the Chancellor Court under the jurisdiction of common law courts began in the 1850s, and finally, after several Judicial Acts of the Parliament , reforming the judicial system of England, it was canceled in 1873 [1] . In 1875, a new single Higher Court of Justice was created, which included the former Chancellor and some common law courts, the Chancellor's department was created in it, dealing with probate , business , trust , land law .
The Chancellor's Court plays a large role in some of Dickens' novels, especially in The Cold House .
