History
The BNP Paribas Group was formed in 2000 as a result of the merger of the retail Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP) and the investment Paribas.
The BNP dates back to 1848 , when the Comptoir National d'Escompte de Paris and Comptoir National d'Escompter de Mulhouse were created. Paribas dates back to 1872 , when the Banque de Paris et des Pays-Bas was founded (where the second part of the name comes from) as a result of the merger of the Banque de Paris, created in 1869, and the Banque de credit et de Dépôt, created in 1863 in Amsterdam .
