History and Architecture
The historic Panbari Mosque or Rangamati Mosque is an excellent example of the great architectural achievement of the Mughal Empire of the 16th – 16th centuries. The mosque was built by Shah Hussein in 1493 and 1519, while the governor of Bengal. This mosque was used as a prayer hall for soldiers. Once upon a time, under the rule and dominion of the rulers of Rangamati, it was a prosperous region and large masses of people flocked to it. Due to the lack of proper maintenance, the mosque loses its former appearance and may in the not so distant future take the sad fate of many architectural monuments in India.
