History
This type of sleeve is named for the British field marshal Baron Raglan , who lost his right hand at the Battle of Waterloo (1815) and wore clothes with this type of sleeve to slightly mask this flaw. Raglan was first mentioned in English literature around 1862. It is believed that the raglan was invented by the British during the Crimean War of 1853-1856. Numerous rains pushed this invention - water did not penetrate under the clothes due to the lack of a seam.
At the same time, on one of the watercolors of the 19th century Russian artist Fyodor Solntsev , dated as far back as 1842, there is an image of a girl from the Tula province in an embroidered shirt with a typical sleeve of this type.
