Thrombospondin ( English thrombospondin, TSP ) - proteins that inhibit angiogenesis , as well as having a number of other properties. The thrombospondin family has five members and is conditionally divided into two subgroups: A , including TSP-1 and TSP-2 , and B , which includes TSP-3 , TSP-4 , TSP-5 . Proteins of group A are homotrimers consisting of three identical subunits, proteins of group B are homopentamers (five subunits).
TSP-1 and TSP-2 are produced by immature astrocytes during brain development and stimulate the development of new synapses . [one]
