Ice People (novel)

The Ice People saga is a 47-volume novel written by the Norwegian - Swedish writer Margit Sandemu . The novel is based on historical events, but is replete with fantastic and mystical elements.

The novel tells the story of the ancient clan of the Ice People, over which the curse of the ancestor of the clan - Tengel the Evil, who made a deal with the devil, weighs on. In each generation, at least one damned is born with magical powers and a penchant for evil. External signs of the damned are yellow eyes, Mongoloid features and, often, anomalies in the structure of the skeleton. Some damned ones struggle with their penchant for evil, others take it as it is, and this is one of the main themes of the story.

The fate of the clan in the novel is traced for several centuries - the first volume takes place in 1581 , and the last in the 1960s . Each volume tells a different story, usually one or more clan members. Usually the main character is a woman - either a member of the clan, or the chosen one of the clan member.

In 1995 - 1998, the saga was published in Russia by the Sirin Publishing House, in 2007 it was reprinted by the Terra Publishing House in 12 volumes. In 2011, the Terra Publishing House reprints the Ice People saga.
