Distribution39 modern species are known (as of February 2008 [2] ) that live in Africa , Siberia , China , Korea , Japan, and North America , primarily in the mountains.
DescriptionThese animals reach a length of 20 to 30 mm and live on the ground under stones and in moss . Their food is partly plants , partly other small animals. Cockroaches (except Mantophasmatodea) love the cold.
Cockroaches do not have wings . Their facet eyes are poorly developed or absent altogether, eyes ( ocelli ) are completely absent. One of the noticeable signs is a swelling bag, which is present in males on the underside of the first posterior segment, which also ends with peculiar threads.
Adult specimens live up to two years, but males are eaten by females after mating.
ClassificationTwo modern and about 50 extinct families are known (165 genera) (Storozhenko, 1998). By August 2013, scientists described 565 species, including 516 fossil species (Zhang, 2013) [3] .

Guard Status1 of their species is listed in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (VU) in the category of vulnerable species (VU) [4] :
- Grylloblatta chirurgica is a vulnerable [5] cave species of cockroach crickets from the Grylloblattidae family, endemic to caves in the northern part of the Cascade Mountains in the extreme west of North America [6] [7] . The main reason for the extinction of the species is the development of tourism in caves [8] .
