History

The construction of the arena began on December 31, 2003 and ended on April 17, 2005. The total project estimate was estimated at 112 million kroons . The construction of the Boros Arena has become a new page not only in the history of Elfsborg , but also in the history of all Swedish football, since this stadium was the first in the country built by a football club with the support of investors. In the future, many clubs copied the Elfsborg experience and tried to acquire their own sports arenas in order to attract economic resources. The stadium was built very close to the club’s former home arena, which was called Ruwallen .

The first game at the Boros Arena took place on April 17, 2005 between Elfsborg and Ergruet and ended in a 1-0 victory for the home team. The first goal in the new arena was Daniel Mobekk. The first hat-trick in the new stadium in the future also distinguished the Elfsborg footballer, namely Anders Svensson , who hit the Gothenburg goal three times.

The maximum capacity of the Boros Arena at Allsvenskan matches is 17,800 spectators, however, during international matches their number decreases to 14,500, taking into account the fire safety standards established by UEFA . The attendance record during the domestic championship games was recorded on July 4, 2005 in the duel between Elfsborg and Kalmar . 17,070 spectators decided to watch this match live. The highest attendance at international matches was in the Champions League playoff match against Valencia , which was lost by Elfsborg on August 29, 2007 with a score of 1-2. Witnesses of this were 13,148 spectators [1] . The Boros Arena consists of four main stands: Knallelandslektaren , Olgordslektaren , Shugeradslektaren and Elfsborgslektaren .

In 2009, it was planned to use the stadium as an arena for hosting the matches of the European Youth Championship , however, a conflict arose with the Max Hamburgerrestauranger restaurant located in the complex. UEFA demanded the closure of the restaurant due to lobbying for the interests of McDonald's , with whom the organization collaborates. The inability to accommodate other catering facilities at the stadiums hosting the European Championship was one of the main requirements of the football union, however, Max owners refused to close the restaurant, and Boros Arena was excluded from the list of stadiums for youth Euro matches [2] .

In 2012, during a break in the competitions caused by Euro 2012 , the field cover was replaced with modern artificial grass GreenFields MX Trimension 42 [3] [4] at the Boros Arena.
