History
Previously called the Faculty of Electric Power Engineering (EEF), it was founded in 1932 along with 5 more departments of the Moscow Energy Institute ( MPEI ), which was re-formed in 1930.
General Information
Currently, the Institute of Electric Power Engineering has 5 graduate departments: “Hydropower and Renewable Energy Sources” (GVIE), Relay Protection and Automation of Energy Systems (RZiAE), High Voltage Engineering and Electrophysics (TEVN), Electric Stations (El.st.) and Electric Power Systems (EPS).
Scientific activity
The Institute is actively conducting research in the following areas:
- management of power plants in normal and emergency conditions;
- modes of the main electrical equipment of power plants and substations;
- short circuits and transients in electrical installations;
- methods and means of increasing the stability of energy systems;
- reliability of electric power systems;
- overvoltage in electric networks and the choice of means of protection against them;
- study of electric discharges in gases;
- lightning protection of electric power, industry and transport facilities;
- electromagnetic compatibility of electric power facilities;
- environmental problems of the electric power industry;
- microprocessor systems of relay protection, control and monitoring of electric power facilities;
- comprehensive methods for determining the location of damage to transmission lines;
