The Order of Merit to the Fatherland ( German: Der Vaterländische Verdienstorden ) is a GDR government award. Established in 1954 by the government of the GDR. Awarding was made for special services to the state in various fields of activity. The order has three degrees: in gold , in silver , in bronze . Worn on the left side of the chest.
