Abduction and Murder of Ben Barki

The investigation in this case in France is still ongoing, customers and participants have not been finally determined, however, during the investigation, participation in the operation of the US and Israeli special services was revealed.

According to one version, in 1965, King Hassan II of Morocco decided to kill Ben Barca, who at that time lived in Geneva . Interior Minister Mohammed Ufkir, who was charged with the murder, turned to Meir Amit, director of Israeli Mossad intelligence. During this period, Morocco was one of the few Arab states with which Israel managed to establish informal relations. Amit categorically refused to take part in the murder of Ben Barki. However, under the threat of a break in relations between Israel and Morocco, he agreed to help lure Ben Barca from Geneva to Paris. [four]

In Paris, Ben Barku was detained by French intelligence agents SDECE [5] and handed over to the Moroccan secret services. Ben Barca was shot dead in a villa in a suburb of Paris on November 2, 1965 . [4] [6] [7]

The abduction of Ben Barca caused the ire of French President Charles de Gaulle and significantly affected the Moroccan-French, and the involvement of Mossad in the abduction of Ben Barca - on Israeli-French relations .

Subsequently, some magazines published assumptions that Ben Barca was an agent of Mossad [8] or Czechoslovak intelligence [9] .

In the movie

Two feature films were shot about the abduction and murder of Ben Barki [10] .

  • The Abduction of Ben Barka ( Fr. L'affaire Ben Barka ) [11] - television movie, 2007.
  • “I saw Ben Barka being killed” ( Fr. J'ai Vu Tuer Ben Barka ) [12] [13] - France, 2008. Simon Abcarian played the role of Ben Barka.

The abduction of Ben Barky formed the basis of the 1972 political thriller directed by Yves Boisset “L'attentat” (in the Soviet box office “Abduction in Paris”). The alleged provocateur who lured Ben Barque (in the film, Sadiel) from Geneva, is played by Jean Louis Trentignan . The role of Sadiel was performed by Gian Maria Volonte . The abduction scene was filmed in the very Lipp restaurant, from where Ben Barca was kidnapped on October 29, 1965.
