Mountain classification

Mountain classification - in the road cycling competition, where the best mountain climber of a multi-day cycling is revealed.

On the Tour de France, at the highest point of each significant climb, points are awarded to the first ones to get there. The lifts are divided into categories from the highest (Hors categorie - outside the category, the most difficult) to the fourth (least difficult) based on their length and steepness. The higher the category, the more points the rider gets. A similar division into categories is in other races.

At the Tour de France, the leader of the mountain classification wears a pea shirt . Although this classification for the Tour de France appeared in 1933, a distinctive T-shirt was introduced only in 1975. In the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta, the leaders of the mountain classification wear a green T-shirt .
