John Stewart ( born John Stewart ; c. 1490 - September 4, 1526 ) - 3rd Earl of Lennox (from 1513 ) - Scottish Baron, one of the leaders of the royalists during the minority of King James V. Stuart .
Biography
John Stuart was the son of Matthew, 2nd Earl of Lennox , who died at the Battle of Flodden , and Elizabeth Hamilton, daughter of James Hamilton ( c. 1415 - 1479 ), 1st Lord Hamilton, and mother of the granddaughter of the King of Scotland, James II Stuart .
After being appointed Regent of Scotland for the minority period of King James V by John Stuart, Duke of Albany , Count Lennox rebelled against the regent in 1515 . At the same time, he organized a rebellion of mountain clans. The uprising was actively supported by the king of England, Henry VIII , who was unhappy with the regent’s pro-French policy. But the count of Lennox’s detachments were defeated by the Duke of Albany in a clash at Glasgow , and the rebellion choked. The regent showed political flexibility and did not resort to repression against the leaders of the rebellion. Soon Lennox was again attracted to the Regency Council.
In 1524, Albany was removed from the post of regent, the count of Angus seized power in the country. Relatives of Angus were appointed to all the main government posts, and the young king was placed in Edinburgh Castle as a hostage. Lennox as one of the most consistent royalists of his time in 1526 made contact with Jacob V and organized a conspiracy to free the king. The conspiracy received widespread support among the Scottish nobility, but on September 4, 1526, Lennox was killed in an attempt to free the king.

On January 19, 1511, he married Elizabeth Stuart, daughter of John Stuart (c. 1440 - 1512 ), 1st Earl of Atoll, and Eleanor Sinclair ( 1457 - 1518 ), daughter of William Sinclair, 3rd Earl of Orkney . Their kids:
