Description
Named for its indigo color. The color of indigolite is blue, dark blue, bluish black, sometimes greenish blue. In the old days in Russia, this stone, like other stones of blue color, was called the Baus .
Used in jewelry as a relatively inexpensive gem . Processed by cutting , mostly flattened (due to dark, usually very thick color) square or rectangular shape.
Deposits
It is found in the form of individual prismatic crystals in the miarolite voids of pegmatite veins . Indigol deposits are known in the Pamirs (Tajikistan), in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Finland [1] .
