History

In 1990, the Transnistrian Moldavian SSR was formed on the left bank of the Dniester, later transformed into the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic. This republic did not accept the new Moldovan government, and therefore, after the introduction of its own registration marks in Moldova , issues of the latest Soviet standard, but of its own series, continued to be issued in the PMR. At first, the MP series were issued, then ME . Later, the MV series was introduced, as the third letter, only letters of the Cyrillic alphabet, similar in writing to the Latin ones, were used; for trailers, the PB series was used.

Since the mid-1990s, in the PMR, the issuance of license plates of their own type has begun, most of which are as follows:

The numbers are 6 digits. The first letter of the number indicates the region of registration. The two letters at the end are a series. License plate background is white. The inscription is in black.

The size of single-row license plates is 520 × 112 mm. On vehicles, a license plate is required both in front and behind. On the left, separated by a vertical black line, the flag of Transnistria is depicted, and a hologram, on which the registration number is also printed. Since 2015, a hologram and a vertical black line have been eliminated on numbers.

These numbers allow entry to Ukraine , Russia , Moldova and Belarus , as well as countries that recognize the independence of the PMR - Abkhazia and South Ossetia , as well as to EU countries, such as Slovakia and Poland. Romania does not allow PMR numbers, since it does not recognize the republic, there are photos on the Internet where cars with numbers from Transnistria visited Spain, Germany and even Switzerland. https://point.md/ru/novosti/obschestvo/v-shvejcarii-zamechen-bentley-s-pridnestrovskimi-nomerami

Since the fall of 2012, PMR officially authorized order numbers, including individual ones. Rooms are purchased at an additional cost, which varies depending on the type of room ordered. Completely individual license plates in the PMR are "substitute" (that is, the car must first be registered with regular numbers) and do not allow travel outside the republic. [one]

Non-International Carriers

In March 2013, the Moldovan and PMR authorities agreed on a new type of numbers - a neutral number for Transnistrian international carriers. It has the format “AV CSC CSC” , where C is a digit and does not contain any state symbols. [2]

This type of numbers began to be issued on September 10, 2018, however, the format of the numbers was changed to “BBB CCC” [3] . There is also a two-row version of the number, where the letters are placed in the upper row and the numbers in the lower row.

Other room types

In July 2015, the President of the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic amended the law on special vehicle license plates. [four]

  • Trailed license plates

Contain black characters on a white background in two rows. In the upper row - a flag, a hologram and two letters of the series, in the lower row - the letter of the code of the place of registration and three digits.

  • Motorcycle License Plates

  • Moped license plates

It contains the letter of the code of the place of registration and three digits, the PMR flag and hologram are missing.

  • Tractor License Plates

In appearance, the form of the corresponding numbers of the last Soviet standard is completely repeated, but the number of digits is reduced to three, the first letter indicates the region of registration. Tractor trailers are also registered with these numbers.

  • License plates of the Ministry of Internal Affairs

Contain black characters on a blue background. Format - two letters of a series and three digits. The second letter in the series is M. The central apparatus of the Ministry of Internal Affairs owns the MM series, the city and district divisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs own the series with the first letter of the city or district code.

  • Transnistria Top Management License Plates

Contains three numbers and the coat of arms of the PMR.

  • License plates of government agencies (special number)

They are five-digit: three digits and two letters of the “SA” series ( with a tinny and a car) [5] .

In February 2012, it was announced that cars of the PMR departments would lose state license plates. [6] In March, the President of the PMR signed a decree urging the owners of special numbers to return them within thirty days, [7] however this order was not executed, and cars with such numbers can be found in the PMR to this day.

  • Diplomatic License Plates

Performed by dark blue characters on a white background, the format of the number is: “CD MCC MCC”, where M is a digit. The first three digits indicate the country of representation ( 001 -   Russia, 002 -   Moldova, 003 -   Ukraine), the next two - serial number ( 01 always belongs to the head of the mission).

  • License plates of the armed forces of the PMR

They are made in the image and likeness of Soviet military numbers of 1960s standards and numbers based on the 1977 standard, but in the usual color scheme (black symbols on a white background). The most common series are the MO and the RG on the numbers of the 1960s standard, and the CO and PV series on the numbers of the late Soviet model.
