Genesis and history

According to the legends of ancient genealogies , it comes from Lewis, who left Sweden to Grand Duke Vasily Dmitrievich and was baptized with the name of Judah. According to another version, it comes from Lithuania (where the surname Sumorok still exists), since the Sumarokovs are mentioned in the spiritual testament (1498) of Prince I. Yu. Patrikeev , a descendant of Gedimin . There is a possibility of the origin of the Sumarokovs (Sumorokovs) family from the clerk of the Grand Duke Dmitry Konstantinovich of Suzdal and Nizhny Novgorod Ivan Sumorokov. It is mentioned in the local letter (see parochialism ) of the Grand Duke Dmitry Konstantinovich (1368) [4] .

Sumarokov Ivan Mikhailovich - governor on campaigns: Kazan (1544), Swedish (1549), Polotsk (1551). Alexey Ivanovich was granted by Ivan the Terrible an estate in a Moscow district (October 2, 1550). Oprichniki of Ivan the Terrible were: Nikifor, Ivan, and Fedor Sumarokovs (1573). Ivan Nikitich Sumarokov governor in Yuriev-Livonsky ( 1579 ). The Sumarok family was a clerk of court cases (1586). Sumarokov Ivan Bogdanovich, nicknamed Oryol, a roommaker of Tsars Alexei Mikhailovich and Fedor Alekseevich, on the hunt saved the life of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich when a bear rushed at him. Since the second half of the XVII century. The Sumarokovs, who had previously served "in the cities", begin to appear in stewards, solicitors, etc.

Pyotr Spiridonovich Sumarokov (1709-1780) was sent (1730) by Yaguzhinsky to Mitau to Anna Ioannovna to warn about the intentions of the supreme leaders, later he was Ober-Stalmeister and senator.

Counts of Sumarokov

By decree of Emperor Alexander II , given to the Governing Senate (August 26, 1856), Adjutant General , Artillery General Sergey Pavlovich Sumarokov , as a long-term reward. excellent and diligent service was elevated to the count dignity of the Russian Empire, on which (November 15, 1857) was awarded a letter (June 7, 1857) and the emblem was approved.

Following the marriage of F.N. Elston with Countess Sumarokova, he was ordered (1856) to add his surname Sumarokov, count's title and named Count Sumarokov-Elston to his surname Elston [1] .
