Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Belarus (1994) [1] . 5 times recognized as the best athlete of the year in Belarus according to a survey of sports journalists (1985, 1986, 1989, 1991, 1993) [2] .

Biography
One of the strongest sprinter skaters in the world in the 1980s-90s. Repeated world record holder (1983-89) at a distance of 1000 and 1500 m and in sprint all-around . Silver ( 1994 ) and bronze ( 1988 ) medalist of the Winter Olympic Games at a distance of 1000 m, six - time world champion in sprint all-around ( 1985 , 1986 , 1989 , 1991 - 1993 ), five - time champion of the USSR in sprint all-around (1985, 1986, 1989-91 ), multiple champion of the country (1984-91) at 500, 1000 and 1500 m. Won 30 wins at the World Cup (1985-1993). Winner of the World Cup at a distance of 1000 m (in 1991-1993). The trainer is V.I. Kaschey [3] .
Former world record holder at distances of 1000 and 1500 m, as well as in sprint all-around.
He is considered one of the most unlucky athletes in the history of the Olympics: the world's best sprinter of the 1980s was never able to win the Olympic gold medal.
He graduated from the Belarusian Institute of Physical Culture (1984). Since 1995 in administrative work: President of the Belarusian Skating Union (1996–2005), member of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus, President of the Paralympic Committee of Belarus (1996–2001).
