Yaw

Yaw Aircraft Model

Yaw - the angular movements of the aircraft , ship , car relative to the vertical axis ( see also the vertical axis of the aircraft ), as well as small changes in the course to the right or left, characteristic of the vessel. The rudder controls this rotation. One of the three angles ( roll , pitch and yaw ) corresponding to the three Euler angles , which specify the rotational position of the aircraft relative to its center. The yaw angle is denoted by the letter ψ (psi) [1] [2] .

In flight dynamics, yaw (or rather, yaw angle ) also means the angle of rotation of the aircraft body in the horizontal plane, measured from the north direction. This angle is similar to the course , but is counted strictly in accordance with the selected coordinate system . In the tradition of the Russian school, this means counting the positive angles counterclockwise, when viewed from above. In addition, the usual yaw angle range under consideration is ± 180 °.
