According to Fillion, he is a descendant of Confederate lieutenant general Jubal A. Earley . Among his ancestors are also French Canadians and Irish .
Fillion holds dual citizenship of Canada and the United States [5] .
Career
1994-2005
After working in the theater and participating in several Canadian television and movies, Fillion moved to New York in 1994, where he starred in the soap opera “ One Life to Live ” as Joey Buchanan, for whom in 1996 he was nominated for the Emmy Award in the Outstanding Young Actor category. In 1997, Fillion left the series for other projects (though he returned to several episodes in 2007). After moving to Los Angeles , he starred in a minor role in the sitcom "Two Guys and a Girl." And also, after inviting Steven Spielberg, starred in a cameo role in the movie “ Saving Private Ryan .”
In 2002, Fillion starred as Captain Malcolm Reynolds in the science fiction television series Joss Widon 's Firefly . For this role, he received an award in the category “Face of the Future Generation” ( English Cinescape Genre Face of the Future - Male ) from the Academy of Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films [6] . According to Fillion, the time he spent filming "Firefly" was the most fun of all the television series [7] [8] . During the filming of "Firefly," actress Jewel State nicknamed him Captain Close Pants. This nickname remained with him. Although the television series was canceled in 2003, in 2005 its sequel, Mission Serenity, was released, where Fillion returned to his role.
In the final season of another Weedon television series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer , Fillion played the minor character Caleb. Fillion voiced the minor character in the animated series King of the Hill (2001), as well as the character of Gao the Younger in the game Jade Empire .
2006 - Present
In 2006, Fillion starred in the lead role of the James Gann horror film " Slug ." For his role as Sheriff Bill Pardi, he was nominated for the Fangoria Magazine Award in the category “Dude That Is Better Not to Joke With” [9] . In the same year, he played a cameo role in the acclaimed TV series " Lost " in the series I agree . In 2007, Fillion starred in the horror film White Noise 2: The Shine . In the same year, the romantic comedy “ Waitress ” was released with Keri Russell and Fillion in the lead roles [10] [11] . In 2007, Fillion appears in the fourth season of the popular drama " Desperate Housewives ." Also performs one of the main roles in the television series " Race ", which was closed after 6 episodes. In the midst of television fans, after this failure, Fillion was assigned the role of “serial killer,” since the series in which he played the main roles were closed with strange frequency [12] [13] [14] .
Later, he got the main role in the series Castle , telling the story of the famous writer Rick Castle, who, thanks to his out-of-the-box thinking and writing talent, helps NYPD solve crimes [15] . The series lasted 8 seasons and was closed in May 2016.
In July 2018, Fillion starred in an unofficial short adaptation of the Uncharted series of games, playing the role of the protagonist Nathan Drake. Fillion, a fan of this series of games, tried for many years to get the role of Drake in the official film adaptation, but in the end the project froze in production hell, and Fillion took matters into his own hands, acting as the producer of a short film. Together with him in the picture, Stephen Lang and Mircy Monroe starred. The film aroused the delight of the audience, noting the game of Fillion and the aspect of the filming of action scenes, imitating that in games [16] [17] .
In September 2018, Fillion began starring John Nolan in the new police series Rookie , based on real-life events. The secondary role in the series is played by Fillion's Uncharted colleague Mircy Monroe, but they do not have common scenes in the series.
