Five-time champion of Russia in sprint all-around (1997, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005). World champion in sprint all-around (2006) and at a distance of 500 m (1996). The 2006 Olympic champion at a distance of 500 meters (one of the Olympic champions in speed skating in the history of the Soviet Union and Russia along with Lidia Skoblikova (1964), Lyudmila Titova (1968), Svetlana Bazhanova , Alexander Golubev , Evgeny Grishin (1960, 1964) and many others [2] ). Biography

Born on January 7, 1972 in the village of Pavlovo-on-Neva, Leningrad Region .

In 1979 she entered the Kirovsk school.

In Kirovsk, the choice of sports sections was small: speed skating or rhythmic gymnastics. Having tried herself on the gymnastic platform, Svetlana, fond of figure skating, went to do what is more interesting - running on skates (for lack of a figure skating section).

In 1986 she continued her studies at the Leningrad School of Olympic Reserve No. 2, where she was actively engaged in speed skating.

From 1988 to 2006, she was a member of the national team of Russia and the USSR in speed skating. She was a Komsomol and a team captain [3] .

In 1988, she began working as a sports instructor (State Committee for Sports of the USSR).

In 1995, she worked as a junior inspector of the regime and security department in remand prison No. 4 (pre-trial detention center 47/4 Lebedevka) of the Main Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. Subsequently transferred to the Convoy Office, has the rank of lieutenant colonel of internal service.

Sports career

The first children's victory in 1984 at the Leningrad Championship among young girls.

Participating in the first world championship in sprint all-around in 1991, Zhurova took 12th place at a distance of 500 m and was 19th in terms of total all-around.

At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Svetlana took 7th place at 500m and 24th place at 1000m.

In the 1994/1995 season, she was the first Russian skater to become the third in the overall World Cup standings.

In 1996, she became the world champion in speed skating at a distance of 500 meters in the Norwegian Hamar , after which she was awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports of Russia. In subsequent years, she won three more silver medals and one bronze medal at this distance.

However, at the Winter Olympics in Nagano in February 1998, Svetlana Zhurova took only 9th place in the short sprint.

At the Calgary World Championships at individual distances ( Olympic Oval ), she won a silver medal at a distance of 500 meters on March 27, 1998, losing only to Olympic champion, Canadian world record holder Katrione Lemey-Doan [4] .

In 1999 she graduated with honors from the Academy of Physical Education with the award of the qualification "Master of Physical Education, teacher of higher education."

In the spring of 2000, having returned to St. Petersburg at the end of the next winter season, Svetlana began dating tennis player Artyom Chernenko. They met a few years earlier when they were training with a trainer in general physical training. In the summer of 2001, they got married [5] .

After a failure at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Zhurova set out to end her sports career and have a baby, but this only happened two years later, on November 20, 2003, Svetlana Zhurova had a son, Yaroslav. After the birth of her son, she again began light training, in the fall of 2004 she went ice skating, and in December she began to participate in competitions [6] .

The Return (2005)

At the beginning of 2005, at the 500-meter World Championship in German Intsell, she became only the 14th, and at a distance twice as long - the 18th [7] .

But already at the end of December 2005, Svetlana won the World Cup stage, 500 and 1000 m.

In January 2006, she won gold at the world championship in sprint all-around in the Dutch Heerenveen [8] .

A month later, in February, at the Winter Olympics in Turin, she won a gold medal in speed skating at a distance of 500 meters. She showed the first result at a distance of 500 meters - 76.57 seconds in the sum of two attempts.

Political career

Legislative Assembly

On March 11, 2007, Zhurova received the mandate of the deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Leningrad Region from the United Russia party and became the director of relations with athletes of the Sochi 2014 Application Committee. Thus, she actually completed her sports career.

In the Legislative Assembly of the Leningrad Region, she headed the standing commission on culture, sports, physical education and youth policy.

In 2007, Zhurova was awarded the rank of lieutenant colonel of internal service.

V State Duma

In December 2007, Zhurova was elected to the State Duma of the Russian Federation of the V convocation as part of the federal list of candidates nominated by the United Russia party. In this regard, she resigned as a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Leningrad Region.

In the State Duma , she received the post of Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Boris Gryzlov from the United Russia faction . Also included in the committee on family, women and children; oversaw the Committee on Education, the Committee on Culture, the Committee on Physical Culture and Sports and the Committee on Youth Affairs.

In the party "United Russia" was appointed deputy secretary of the Presidium of the General Council of the party.

Federation Council

On March 16, 2012, she was appointed a representative in the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation from the Government of the Kirov Region [9] .

May 26, 2012 Zhurova became a member of the Supreme Council of the party, which was elected at the congress of "United Russia" [11] .

Sixth State Duma

In early March 2013, it was announced that Svetlana Zhurova would receive the mandate of the deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation of the VI convocation , who was released after leaving the parliament Ramazan Abdulatipov , who was appointed acting head of Dagestan [12] . Zhurova’s transition from the upper house to the lower house was decided by the General Council of the United Russia party.

On September 18, 2016, elections to the State Duma of the VII convocation were held. Svetlana Zhurova was elected on the federal list of candidates nominated by the United Russia All-Russian Political Party. Represents the regional group N18 (Leningrad region, Republic of Karelia, Murmansk region). He holds the post of first deputy chairman of the committee on international affairs in the State Duma.

Legislative activity

From 2007 to 2019, during the exercise of the powers of a deputy of the State Duma of the V, VI and VII convocations, she co-authored 75 legislative initiatives and amendments to draft federal laws [15] .

Community Activities

Svetlana Zhurova is the first vice-president of the Russian Skating Union, the first vice-president of the Blind Sports Federation, honorary president of the Russian Golf Association, member of the supervisory board of the All-Russian Sailing Federation, co-chair of the Supervisory Board of the AIDT (Association of the Children's Goods Industry), member of the board of trustees of the All-Russian Physical Culture sports public organization "Russian Association of sports facilities." The governing council is headed by the Gbou Shuvalovskaya gymnasium N1448.

Sanctions

It is included in the European Union sanctions list. December 20, 2014 was included in the sanctions list of Canada.

In October 2018, she was declared persona non grata in Azerbaijan “for gross violation of the legislation of the republic - illegal visits to the occupied territories of Azerbaijan” - her visit to the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic [16] .

Family

She was married to tennis player Artyom Chernenko (2001-2013), sons - Yaroslav (born November 20, 2003) and Ivan (born April 17, 2009).
